Editorial policy and review methodology

How WriterFlowLab researches, reviews and compares AI tools, how we handle affiliate links and AI assistance, and how to report a correction.

What WriterFlowLab covers

WriterFlowLab is an independent publication about practical AI for writing and digital work. We cover:

  • AI writing and editing tools
  • AI productivity tools
  • tools for creators, including voice, audio and video tools
  • practical AI workflows, such as drafting, editing and repurposing content
  • free browser-based utilities for writers, such as our word counter and text cleaner

How we research tools

We base factual statements about a tool on primary sources wherever possible:

  • the tool's official website and product pages
  • its official pricing page
  • its official help centre and documentation
  • other primary sources, such as official guidance from search engines or published research, when an article relies on them

We check this information before publication. Because prices and features change often, pages that state them show the date they were checked, and we link to the official source so you can confirm the current details.

Hands-on testing

We only say we have tested a tool when that testing actually happened. We do not describe personal experience, results or impressions that we do not have.

When a page covers a tool we have not tested ourselves, it is based on the vendor's published information and verified documentation, and the page says so. If we test a tool in future, we will make clear which observations come from that testing.

How we review and compare tools

What we consider

  • Features: what the tool does, based on official sources.
  • Intended users: who the tool is designed for, and who it may not suit.
  • Workflow fit: where the tool fits into real writing, content or creative work.
  • Limitations: what the tool cannot do, plan limits and common caveats.
  • Pricing structure: how plans are organised, such as free plans, trials, credits or annual billing.
  • Ease of use: only where it can be verified, for example from official documentation.
  • Alternatives: relevant tools that may suit a different need or budget.

Why we do not use star ratings

We do not give tools star ratings or numerical scores, because a single number cannot reflect how well a tool fits your particular work. If we ever introduce scores, we will explain how they are calculated on this page first.

Facts and opinions

We separate verified facts from editorial judgement. Our recommendations are labelled as our view, for example as an "Editorial view" or "Our guidance". You can see this approach in our reviews and comparisons.

Affiliate relationships

WriterFlowLab is funded by affiliate commissions. If you sign up for some tools through links on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

  • Affiliate relationships do not determine our factual claims or our editorial conclusions.
  • Affiliate links are disclosed, and affiliate buttons are marked as sponsored links.
  • We cover tools whether or not we have an affiliate relationship with them.
  • We do not sell review placements, rankings or ratings.

For full details, read our affiliate disclosure.

How we use AI in our editorial work

AI tools may assist with parts of our work, such as organising research, drafting and editing. We do not treat AI output as a source. Factual claims about tools, pricing and search guidance are checked against the primary sources cited on the page before publication, and anything that cannot be verified is removed.

Final decisions about what we publish remain part of WriterFlowLab's editorial process. Using AI assistance does not change the standards on this page.

Corrections and updates

Software changes frequently. We update our content when pricing, features or other factual information changes, and pages that have been revised show when they were updated or last checked.

If you spot an error or outdated information, email hello@writerflowlab.com with the page address and what needs correcting, or use our contact page. We welcome correction requests and review credible reports of factual errors, and we update the page when the information is confirmed.
