Murf AI and ElevenLabs both turn written text into AI-generated speech, and both are popular with creators who need voiceovers without recording every line. They are built around different workflows, though, and the better fit depends on what you produce. This comparison sets out what each tool offers, how their pricing is structured and which kinds of creators each may suit.
Facts in this comparison come from Murf's and ElevenLabs' official websites, help centres and pricing pages, checked October 1, 2026. We have not run hands-on tests of either tool for this article, and anything marked as our view is editorial judgement, not a test result. The short answer
- Murf AI is organised around a voiceover studio. It may suit creators who mainly produce narrated videos, presentations and training content, and who want detailed control over timing and pronunciation in one editor.
- ElevenLabs is a broader AI audio platform. It may suit creators who want expressive voices, voice cloning on lower-priced plans, or other audio tools such as dubbing and sound effects in the same account.
- Neither is the right choice for everyone. Both offer free plans, so the most reliable way to decide is to generate the same short script in each and compare the results for your own content.
Text-to-speech
Murf AI
Murf's text-to-speech runs in Murf Studio. You add a script, choose a voice and generate the voiceover. Murf says it offers more than 200 voices, and its plan comparison lists more than 30 languages and accents. Voice styles, such as conversational or promotional, are available for selected voices.
ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs offers text-to-speech through its Text to Speech tool and its Studio workspace for longer projects. It provides several speech models with different trade-offs, and says it supports speech in 90+ languages and a wide range of accents, although language support varies by model. Its Voice Library includes voices shared by the community, and you can also design new synthetic voices.
Voice quality and control
Voice quality is subjective and depends on the voice, the script and the settings, so we do not rank one tool above the other here. What differs is the kind of control each tool gives you.
- Murf lets you adjust pitch, speed and pause length per sentence or per word, and use a pronunciation editor to define how specific words are said. On the Business plan and above, it adds Emphasis, Variability and Say It My Way, which lets you record your own reading of a line for the AI voice to follow.
- ElevenLabs offers voice settings such as stability, similarity, style and speed, plus pronunciation dictionaries for names and technical terms. Its Eleven v3 model also accepts audio tags to steer emotion and delivery.
Our view: Murf's controls are geared towards precise, line-by-line voiceover editing. ElevenLabs' controls lean more towards shaping the overall performance of a voice. Which matters more depends on whether you are timing narration to visuals or aiming for expressive delivery.
Voiceover workflows
Murf Studio is designed as a voiceover editor for projects such as videos, presentations and e-learning. Murf integrates with Canva on its paid plans, and with PowerPoint and Google Slides on the Business plan and above, which helps if your narration lives inside slides or designs.
ElevenLabs' Studio is a workspace for longer audio and video projects. You can import content from files or a URL, assign different voices to different paragraphs and export the finished audio. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see our guide on how to use ElevenLabs for AI voice content.
Dubbing and localization
- Murf Dub translates video and audio into other languages. Murf's help centre says it supports dubbing in 20+ languages and accents, and that it keeps the original timestamps, background music and sound effects. Dubbing is billed separately with credits. Automated dubbing uses 2 credits per minute of content for each language.
- ElevenLabs Dubbing also translates audio and video. ElevenLabs says it covers 90+ languages and accents and delivers each translation in a voice clone of the original speaker. Its Dubbing Studio is included on paid plans from Starter upwards and uses the plan's credits.
AI translation and dubbing still need review by someone who speaks the target language, especially for brand names, humour and technical terms.
Voice changer and voice cloning
- Voice changer: both tools can take an existing recording and re-voice it with an AI voice. Murf's voice changer accepts common audio and video formats and includes an option to retain the original prosody. ElevenLabs' voice changer accepts audio and video files, with a limit of 5 minutes per conversion.
- Voice cloning: ElevenLabs includes Instant Voice Cloning from the Starter plan and Professional Voice Cloning from the Creator plan. On Murf's Studio plans, custom voice clones are listed as an Enterprise add-on.
Whichever tool you use, only clone a voice you have the clear right and permission to use.
Creator use cases
- Explainer, product and training videos: both tools work. Murf's per-word timing controls and slide integrations are designed for this kind of narration.
- Audio versions of articles and newsletters: both tools work. ElevenLabs' Studio can import content from a document or URL, which can speed up long-form narration.
- Podcasts and character voices: ElevenLabs' expressive models, voice design and cloning options give more room for distinctive voices.
- Translating existing videos: both offer AI dubbing with different pricing models, so compare the cost for your typical video length.
- Presentations and e-learning: Murf's PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva integrations may save time if your content starts there.

Ease of use
Both tools let you paste text, choose a voice and generate audio within minutes, and both offer free plans to try the basics. Murf presents everything in a single voiceover editor, which may feel familiar if you are used to working with video or slide timelines. ElevenLabs spreads its features across several tools in one account, which gives more options but means a little more to learn.
Our view: the easier tool is usually the one that matches the job you do most often.
Pricing structure
Pricing checked October 1, 2026. Prices change, so confirm them on the official pages before you buy.
Murf AI (Studio)
- Free: $0, with 10 minutes of voice generation, no downloads and no commercial rights
- Creator: $29/month billed monthly (2 hours of voice generation per month), or $19/month billed annually
- Business: $99/month billed monthly (8 hours per month), or $66/month billed annually
- Enterprise: custom pricing
Murf's Studio plans are measured in hours of voice generation. AI dubbing and the Murf API are priced separately. See Murf's official pricing page.
ElevenLabs
- Free: $0, with 10,000 credits per month
- Starter: $6/month
- Creator: $22/month (offered at $11 for the first month when we checked, as an introductory promotion)
- Pro: $99/month
- Scale: $299/month
- Business: $990/month
- Enterprise: custom pricing
ElevenLabs plans are measured in monthly credits that are used across its tools, and its prices exclude taxes. See ElevenLabs' official pricing page.
Our view: ElevenLabs has the lower entry price for a paid plan with commercial use. Murf's hour-based limits can be easier to budget if you mainly produce voiceovers. Compare both against the amount of audio you expect to generate each month.
Limitations to keep in mind
- Murf AI: the free plan does not include downloads or commercial rights, some editing controls need the Business plan, custom voice clones are an Enterprise add-on, and dubbing is billed separately.
- ElevenLabs: credits are used across its tools, so heavy use of dubbing or other features reduces what is left for speech. Professional Voice Cloning starts on the Creator plan, and language support varies by model.
- Both: AI voices can mispronounce names and technical terms, so listen to the full output carefully before you publish it.
Which type of user each tool may suit
- Murf AI may suit marketers, educators and video creators who produce regular voiceovers for videos, slides and training material, and who want detailed timing and pronunciation control in one editor.
- ElevenLabs may suit creators who want expressive voices, voice cloning on a low-cost plan, or a wider set of AI audio tools in one account, including podcasters and storytellers.
